Data Analysis Expression Language Reference (DAX)
The Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) language is a new formula language that can be used in PowerPivot for Excel to create custom measures and calculated columns within an in-memory instance of Analysis Services. The DAX language has a syntax that is similar to the syntax of Excel formulas, but DAX works with columns and tables, not arbitrary values or arrays. DAX also provides a set of sophisticated time intelligence functions. This section provides information about the syntax and uses of DAX.
