OID_DOT11_ED_THRESHOLD (Compact 2013)

3/26/2014

When queried, this OID requests that the miniport driver return the value of the IEEE 802.11 dot11EDThreshold management information base (MIB) object for the current PHY type on the 802.11 station.

This MIB object specifies the energy detect (ED) threshold of the current PHY type. The PHY uses the ED threshold to determine when it has detected sufficient energy in order to enable receive operations.

For more information about the ED threshold, refer to Clause 15.4.5.13 of the IEEE 802.11-1999 standard and Clause 18.4.8.4 of the IEEE 802.11b-1999 standard.

The data type for this OID is a ULONG value that specifies the ED threshold in units of dBm.

The dot11EDThreshold MIB object is valid only for the following PHY types:

  • Direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) PHY
  • High-rate DSSS (HRDSSS) PHY
  • Extended rate PHY (ERP)

If the current PHY type is not set to dot11_phy_type_dsss, dot11_phy_type_hrdsss, or dot11_phy_type_erp, the miniport driver must fail the query request by returning NDIS_STATUS_INVALID_DATA from its MiniportOidRequest function.

If the miniport driver is operating in Extensible Station (ExtSTA) mode, the current PHY type is determined through the ExtSTA msDot11CurrentPhyID MIB object. This MIB object specifies the index of the current PHY type within the 802.11 station’s list of supported PHY types. For more information about msDot11CurrentPhyID, see OID_DOT11_CURRENT_PHY_ID.
