Check for supported hardware and software. Verify that the operating system meets requirements for Team Foundation Build Service and that the hardware can run it.

Check for required permissions and user accounts. Verify that the account that you will use to install Team Foundation Build Service is a member of the Administrators security group on the server where you will install Team Foundation Build Service.

If the account you are using to install Team Foundation Build Service (mentioned above) is also a member of the Project Collection Administrators group in Team Foundation Server, the build service account (TFSBUILD) will be automatically added to the Build Services Security group in Team Foundation Server. If you do not know whether the account that you are using is a member of the Project Collection Administrators group, procedures are provided below to grant TFSBUILD the appropriate permissions after installation and initial configuration.

Determine the service accounts that you will use to install Team Foundation Build Service (TFSBUILD).

Check for supported environment settings. If you have a firewall between the server where you want to run Team Foundation Build Service and any clients or other servers that must connect to or be connected to Team Foundation Build Service, verify that the ports required by Team Foundation Build Service are open.

If Windows Firewall is on and configured to allow exceptions, the installation wizard for Team Foundation Build Service creates appropriate exceptions.

If you are using a different firewall or Windows Firewall is configured to disallow exceptions, you must open the ports manually before you install Team Foundation Build Service.

By performing these tasks, you can install and configure Team Foundation Build Service.
