Learn how to suppress the Windows Embedded 8 Industry (Industry 8) boot menu and UI during device startup.

By default, devices that run the Industry 8 OS display identifiable Windows 8 boot options and UI elements. These include options such as the ability to access advanced boot options and elements such as startup and shutdown screens, and so on.

There are many scenarios where you might want to hide these UI elements or deny access to advanced boot options. You may want your device to be treated like an appliance instead of a computer. In this case, you want to replace or suppress as many Windows brand elements as possible to reduce attempts to breach the security of the device or disable it.

You can manually set the following individual boot settings at run time, using the BCDBoot command-line tool. For more information on BCDBoot, see BCDEdit Technical Reference.

  • On your device running Industry 8, open a command prompt with administrator rights and type the following:

    bcdedit.exe –set {globalsettings} advancedoptions false

  • On your device running Industry 8, open a command prompt with administrator rights and type the following:

    bcdedit.exe –set {globalsettings} optionsedit false

  • On your device running Industry 8, open a command prompt with administrator rights and type the following:
