Sign up as a developer for the Windows Store
Before you can submit your desktop app to the Windows Store, you must sign up as a developer for the Windows Store and be vetted. Here's how.
First, go to the Store dashboard to create your Windows developer account. If you already have a Windows Phone developer account, you do not need to be vetted again; your existing info will automatically appear during sign-up.
Two steps during this sign-up are particularly important. If you don’t follow them, you won't be able to submit your desktop apps to be listed in the Windows Store:
Choose Company when asked to pick your account type.
Use the same Microsoft account credentials that you used to submit your Windows App Certification Kit results when you signed up as a developer for the Windows Store.
If you already have an active Windows Phone account and you’d like to keep the same company name, you can use the same credentials here. This eliminates the need for you to be vetted again. Keep in mind that if you use your Windows Phone account credentials here, you must also use those same credentials when submitting the results of the Windows App Certification Kit.
If you do not have a Windows Phone account, you will go through a vetting process by GeoTrust before you can submit desktop apps for listing in the Windows Store. The GeoTrust process may take a few days, so take this into consideration as you plan your submission timeline.
Next, choose your country/region and the account type. To be able to list your desktop app in the Windows Store, you must choose Company as the account type.
If you already have a Windows Phone account and have signed in with the corresponding credentials, much of your account info will be filled in for you here automatically. If that isn’t the case, fill in the required info. This includes the name and contact info of your Approver, which is used to verify your account.
The Approver is typically someone at your company who can vouch for you as a member of your company. They will receive an email message asking them to verify that you are who you say you are.
Once your account is created, and before you have been vetted, you will be able to start submitting your desktop apps to the Windows Store. You won’t be able to list apps in during this period, but once vetting is complete, your apps will be processed for listing.
Complete the next step by agreeing to the terms of the App Developer Agreement.
Next, you will prompted to enter a registration code (if you have one) credit card info, and to confirm your payment for your Windows Store account. Every account must have a valid credit card associated with it, even if the card is not charged. Note that the physical address associated with the card must be in the same country that you initially selected in the Account Info step.
From the Thank You page you can go directly to the developer dashboard to start submitting your desktop apps to the Windows Store.
