Edit a Configuration File (Industry 8)

7/8/2014

Review where to find the Windows SIM tool used to edit a Windows Embedded 8 Industry (Industry 8) configuration file.

When you run Setup in Windows Embedded 8 Industry (Industry 8), it creates a configuration file called Unattend.xml. This file is located at %windir%\Panther\Unattend\Unattend.xml and is used during OOBE to complete the setup of Industry 8 on your device. If you want to make changes to this configuration file before OOBE in order to further customize your device’s image or if you want to create your Unattend.xml file from scratch, we recommend that you use Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM).

Windows SIM is a tool that ships with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK). See Windows Deployment with the Windows ADK for a link to download the Windows ADK.

See Windows SIM How-to Topics for detailed instructions on using Windows SIM.

Note

The term answer file used in the documentation for Windows SIM and the term configuration file used in the documentation for Industry 8 are synonymous when referring to Unattend.xml.
