Sample Minimal Shell (Compact 2013)

3/28/2014

Windows Embedded Compact 2013 provides a sample minimal shell with a customizable menu system that can be replaced with your own shell. The minimal shell displays a splash screen with the Windows Embedded Compact 2013 logo and a single Command menu bar at the top of the screen. The Command menu provides access to the Command Prompt window and can be customized to include your own commands. You can interact with the minimal shell using a mouse, touch screen, or the keyboard. The keyboard shortcuts are:

  • Press Alt+C to activate the menu bar and open the Command menu.
  • Use the arrow keys to select menu items on the Command menu.
  • Use Enter to execute the highlighted menu command.
  • Press E to exit the minimal shell.

Warning

If you exit the minimal shell, your device will display a blank static screen. The Exit command on the Command menu is visible only when you build your operating system in debug mode.

To enable this minimal shell in your OS, see Sample Minimal Shell Catalog Items and Sysgen Variables. To learn how to customize the Command menu, see Customize the Minimal Shell Command Menu.
