Troubleshooting Cellular Handset Testing

This topic describes how to troubleshoot the cellular handset logo tests.

If the tests do not run after you schedule them, the tests require the WPD\PortableDeviceType Exists constraint before you can run them.

To enable this constraint, you must apply the Wdk\ConfigureCellularHandsetsPortableDevice dimension on your test machine pool. (For more information about applying this dimension, see the “Test system configuration” section of Preparing for Portable Media Device Testing.)

If your computer is running Windows XP with Service Pack (SP2), you also must install the Windows Portable Devices and User Mode Driver Framework binaries before you run the cellular handset logo tests. For more information, see the "Software Requirements" section of Portable Media Devices Testing Overview.

If many tests start to fail after some time, especially when you are running the Stress test, do the following to check that the device has not gone into a bad state:

  • Verify that the device is still connected to the test machine and is turned on.
  • Verify that the device node is still visible in Device Manager and not disabled (yellow exclamation point). Re-enable or re-install the device when that happens.
  • Browse the device's contents in My Computer by viewing objects or files in the device storage. If the device stops responding (hangs), the driver or device might have gone into a bad state.

If the device has gone into a persistent bad state, reset the device or remove and re-insert the batteries.

If the WDK\PortableMediaType dimension on your machine is empty or incorrect, and you have verified that your device is plugged in correctly, the dimensions may not be refreshing properly. You can force a refresh by selecting CellularHandsetsPortableDevices Master Config Job and clicking Rerun from Job Monitor.

Viewing Results

To view the results after each test run:

  1. Open the Job Monitor window.
  2. Select the machine that ran the job.
  3. In the Job Execution Status pane, select the job.
  4. In the Task Execution Status pane, right-click the Process Logged Messages task, and click View Task Log.
  5. From the list at the top left of the window, select ContextTree. The log file will be displayed in an organized fashion according to PCI function and further organized into test sections.
  6. Expand or collapse sections by clicking on the nodes.
