My Dashboard (Agile)

You can monitor your tasks and quickly access work items that are assigned to you by using My Dashboard.

Note

You access dashboards through your team project portal. You can access My Dashboard only if that portal has been enabled and is provisioned to use either Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. For more information, see Dashboards (Agile) or Access a Team Project Portal and Process Guidance.

You can use this dashboard to answer the following questions:

  • What is the next set of Tasks, Bugs, or Test Cases that I should act on?

  • What is the status of the team's most recent builds?

Required Permissions

To view the dashboard, you must be assigned or belong to a group that has been assigned the Read permissions in SharePoint Products for the team project. To modify, copy, or customize a dashboard, you must be assigned or belong to a group that has been assigned the Members permissions in SharePoint Products for the team project. For more information, see Add Users to Team Projects.

To view a work item, you must be a member of the Readers group or your View work items in this node must be set to Allow. To create or modify a work item, you must be a member of the Contributors group or your Edit work items in this node permission must be set to Allow. For more information, see Managing Permissions.

Data That Appears in the Dashboard

You can use My Dashboard to review and access your work items. It displays the Web parts that the following illustration shows and the following table describes. You can open the list of Tasks, Bugs, and Test Cases in either Team Web Access or Team Explorer by using one of the following team queries: My Tasks, My Bugs, or My Test Cases. Required Work Item Tracking Activities

For the reports that My Dashboard shows to be useful and accurate, the team must perform the following activities:

  • Define tasks, bugs, and test cases, and assign each work item to the team member who is currently working to resolve or close it.

  • Update the State of each work item the team fixes, verifies, and closes it.

Managing Your Work Using My Dashboard

You can use My Dashboard to open and update work items that are assigned to you, add work items, and share work items with other members of the team.

You can accomplish the following actions by using the dashboard toolbar.

  • Create a work item. This function opens a blank work item form for the type of work item that you specified. For more information, see Work Items and Workflow (Agile).

  • Create an Excel report. This function opens the Excel report template. For more information, see Create a Report in Microsoft Excel for Visual Studio ALM.

  • Create a copy of the current dashboard, and customize it to support your needs.

  • Open a work item based on its ID number.

Customizing My Dashboard

You can customize My Dashboard in the following ways:

  • Add columns, or sort columns in an existing work item list.

  • Change the query that is referenced by one of the existing work item list Web parts.

  • Add a custom query Web part that displays the list of work items that the query finds. For example, you can add a query that lists all active User Stories, Issues, or other types of work items that are assigned to you.

  • Add existing reports from Office Excel such as User Story Progress, User Story Test Status, and Bugs By Assignment.

  • Create and add reports from Office Excel to show progress that is of specific interest to you.

  • Add other SharePoint site supported Web parts that integrate with Office Outlook or search functions of SharePoint Products.
