How to: Change the State of a Test Plan

The state of a test plan can be set to the following two states:

  • Active    When you are ready to run the tests in the test plan.

  • Inactive    When you are not yet ready to run the tests in the test plan.

The default state for a test plan is Active.

To change the state of a test plan

  1. Open Microsoft Test Manager.

    To display the Microsoft Test Manager window, click Start, and then click All Programs. Point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and then click Microsoft Test Manager 2010.

  2. To change the state of a test plan, click the down-arrow on the center group selector and click Testing Center.

  3. In the center group menu bar, click Plan.

  4. If the test plan is not set as your current plan context, click the test plan hyperlink in the upper right hand corner, and select the test plan from the list. Next, click Select plan.

  5. To view the current state of your test plan, click Properties.

  6. Click State and select from the list of states, based on the following table:

    State

    When to use it

    Active

    When you are ready to run the tests in the test plan.

    Inactive

    If you are not yet ready to run the tests in the test plan.

    Important noteImportant

    To run tests, you must set the status of a test plan to Active. If a test plan is in an inactive state, you can only view the test plan and edit it. You cannot run any tests from an inactive test plan.

  7. To save these changes for this test plan, click Save in the toolbar.
