Procedures

To Change, Repair or Uninstall a Windows Embedded Standard installation

  1. Insert the installation DVD.

  2. On the splash page, choose Install, and then choose Run the Windows Embedded Standard installation wizard.

  3. In the Windows Embedded Standard setup page choose Next.

The Windows Embedded Standard Setup wizard inspects your computer. If you have a previous installation of Windows Embedded Standard, the wizard presents the following options: Change, Repair, and Remove.

Note

The Change option can be used to add or remove features after the Installation Wizard has migrated all Windows XP Embedded components that had been previously installed.

How to: Change your Windows Embedded Standard installation

If you need to add or remove features, you can customize your installation by choosing the Change option.

  1. Choose Change in the installation wizard.

  2. On the next page, click the icons of the components you want to add or remove from the installation. Select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive to add a component or Entire feature will be unavailable to remove a component, and then choose Next.

    Note

If you remove Windows Embedded Standard tools, setup warns you that custom settings will be lost. If you remove the Windows Embedded Standard database, setup warns you that all custom components will be lost.

    Note

If you select Language pack(s) to be installed during Windows Embedded Standard setup, you cannot uninstall an individual language pack by itself within Setup Maintenance Mode. To uninstall Language Pack(s), you must uninstall the Windows Embedded Standard database. This is by design.

  3. The preinstall report displays the list of components to be installed and uninstalled. Click Install.
The post-installation page indicates whether or not the process succeeded.

  4. On the next page, choose Finish to complete the process.

How to: Repair your Windows Embedded Standard installation

You can repair your installation by choosing the Repair option. If you select to repair your installation, all custom settings and components will be lost. It is recommended that you backup custom settings and components before attempting to repair your installation.

  1. Choose Repair in the installation wizard.
  2. In the next page, the installer warns you that all custom settings and the component database will be deleted. Click Repair.
The status bar indicates the progress of the repair. The post-installation page indicates whether or not the process succeeded.
  3. Choose Finish to complete the process.

How to: Uninstall your Windows Embedded Standard installation

Just as in the Repair scenario, if you select to uninstall Windows Embedded Standard, all custom settings and components will be lost.

Note

When you uninstall Windows Embedded Standard, the Windows Embedded Images folder and its contents will be preserved.

Note

If you had installed the Windows Embedded Standard database and later attempt to uninstall Windows Embedded Standard, the installation wizard cannot uninstall if an instance of SQL Server is not detected. The instance of SQL Server installed on the machine must match the type and name of the instance that present when Windows Embedded Standard was installed. To check the previously installed SQL Server instance, open the Component Database Manager and check the value for Database server location under the Database tab. To successfully uninstall Windows Embedded Standard, you need to first install SQL Server with the same instance as shown in the Component Database Manager and then perform an uninstall.

  1. Choose Remove in the installation wizard.
  2. In the next page, the installer warns you that all custom settings and the component database will be deleted. Click Remove.
The status bar indicates the progress of the repair. The post-installation page indicates whether or not the process succeeded.
  3. Choose Finish to complete the process.
