Using the Windows Small Business Server 2008 SDK

Windows Server 2003

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard

The Windows Small Business Server 2008 SDK provides the ability to monitor the status of additional security components from the Security tab of the Windows SBS Console, and to receive custom alerts related to events that are logged on the server. Components that are added to the Security tab using security add-ins are also integrated into the Security section of reports that are generated by Windows® Small Business Server 2008.

noteNote
You can also use the Windows Small Business Server 2008 SDK to add security components and custom alerts to Windows® Small Business Server 2011 Standard.

Adding security components to the Windows SBS Console includes developing add-ins that provide status and detail information about the security component. Adding custom alerts includes defining the events that will trigger the alerts.

The documentation in the Windows Small Business Server 2008 SDK assumes that you are familiar with the following technologies:

  • XML

  • Event Viewer

  • Microsoft Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE)

  • Microsoft Visual C# programming language or Windows PowerShell

Use the following documentation to find the information that you need to develop your own add-ins and custom alerts for the Windows SBS 2008 operating system:
