Please explain

Perhaps you'd like to explain where in this workflow the "approvals" actually take place? I must be missing it. In practice if you were to copy these steps you will get an email notifying you to approve the workflow, but there are actually no tasks assigned. And task assignment is the key to "approval" workflows. Therefore, this is not an approval workflow, it is just a fancy email notification.

Criticism not warranted
People miss the point if they only see the emails being sent. In fact the approval process itself still works even if the emails don't go out.
If the approval person checks his site every day he would still see the new item and could still approve or reject the item.
The only thing the emails do in this scenario is act as a convenience to alert people they have new items to approve or to alert people
of the final disposition of the outcome. The actual approval is the person who is authorized to approve the item updates that status item.
Thats it. The approval is done. I think what you guys really are complaining about is that you were looking for more for of a real world situation perhaps where you had multiple levels of approval or routing.

My time wasted too
I wish I had read the comments before I had read the whole article.

Change the title!
I wanted to add to the disappointment regarding this article. It has nothing to do with the 'approval' process. All it does is send an email notification when a particular field is over a specific value. My search continues.

Don't bother...
I wish I read these comments before watching the video. This example is a total waste of time.

How to override "Submit for Approval" button
How does one override the base functionality of the "Submit for Approval" button?

Very misleading title.
This has absolutely nothing to do with approvals. Consider telling us how to create a custom approval workflow in an article titled "Creating a Custom Approval Workflow...", or at least use the word approval in the body of the article.

Waste of Time
This does not show how to collect approval. All it does is show how to send emails. Not good enought Microsoft.
