Windows Live Application Based Storage API

Welcome to the Windows Live™ Application Based Storage API. The Application Based Storage API enables Web sites to store and retrieve user data using the ATOM protocol. Use Application Based Storage to manage application-related data on behalf of your users. Your Web site can access Application Based Storage data from any computer that is connected to the internet, so long as the user has provided consent by logging in using a Windows Live ID.

Web sites can incorporate the following functionality.

  • Upload or download documents and photos.
  • Create, edit, or delete folders.
  • View information about a user's data.

To use this service, your site must facilitate obtaining authentication. Delegated Authentication is the mechanism that is used for Application Based Storage. For more information, see Core Concepts of Delegated Authentication.

Application Based Storage Offers

Only one type of access request is provided for application based storage. The ApplicationStorage.ReadWrite offer enables the requestor to read and write Application Storage data.
