Show or hide tags and formatting marks in Design view

You can display, in Design view, all of the start and end tags that reside in the source code of your web page, and icons for other items that normally appear only in the code of a page.

Note

The Paragraph Marks display in the Formatting Marks menu also turns the bookmark display on and off.

When you display tags in Design view, the tags appear inline with the content of your web page and enable your cursor to get into positions in your code that it normally can't access in Design view. You can select a shown tag to select the start and end tags and the content of the tags, or point at a shown tag to display a ScreenTip that displays the entire text of that tag, including its attributes and values.

Tip

You can also use the Quick Tag Selector bar at the top of the editing window to select a set of start and end tags and the content of the tags, or to display a ScreenTip that displays the entire text of that tag, including its attributes and values. The Quick Tag Selector bar also provides you with additional options for working with a tag. For more information, see Quick Tag Selector.
