Move objects between layers

When you create a new object, path, or shape, Microsoft Expression Design always positions it on the current layer (whichever layer is currently selected in the Layers panel). You can change the current layer in the Layers panel by clicking the tile of the layer you want to use.

To drag an object between layers

• Do one of the following:

  • In the Layers panel, expand the layer to show the object list, and then select the object or objects you want to move.Drag the object into the destination layer.

  • In the Layers task pane, select the individual objects that you want to move on the layer, and then click the square tile in the source layer and drag it to the destination layer.

    Note

    If you cannot see the objects on the layer, expand the layer by clicking the triangle to the left of the layer's name.

To cut or copy and paste an object into another layer

1. Select one or more objects on the document workspace.

2. On the Edit menu, click Cut (or press CTRL+X) or Copy (or press CTRL+C).

3. In the Layers panel, select or create the destination layer.

4. From the Edit menu, select Paste (or press CTRL+V). To order the position of the object in the layer, click Paste in Front or Paste in Back.

To move objects from multiple layers into a new layer

1. Select the objects you want to move.

   Tip

   Lock or hide the objects you do not want to move, and then, from the Toolbar, use either the Group Selection  or Lasso Selection  tool to select the objects you want to move.

2. From the Edit menu, click Cut (or press CTRL+X) or Copy (or press CTRL+C).

3. In the Layers panel, select or create the destination layer.

4. From the Edit menu, click Paste (or press CTRL+V).
