A plug-in is custom business logic that you can integrate with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 to modify or augment the standard behavior of the platform.

The following sections describe how to add custom business logic to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (on-premise) through the development and registration of plug-ins. These were known as callouts in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. For general information about the run-time execution of plug-ins and the plug-in development framework, see Event Framework.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online does not support plug-ins. However, you can extend the functionality by using workflows. For more information, see Workflows.
