Getting Started with the Windows Live Presence API

The Windows Live Presence API is an HTTP-based API that returns a user's presence by using JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) or an image.

Requirements

You must have the following resources to use the Windows Live Presence API:

The ability to send requests by using the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP 1.1)
The ability to parse JSON

The following browsers are supported for use with the Windows Live Presence API:

Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6; Windows Internet Explorer 7; Windows Internet Explorer 8
Firefox 1.5; Firefox 2.0; Firefox 3.0 on Windows
Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2.0; Firefox 3.0 on Macintosh OS X

A user is required to have a Windows Live™ ID to enable sharing their presence through the Windows Live Presence API. This can be obtained by visiting the Windows Live Account page.
