Filtering the WDK Documentation

To locate information in the WDK documentation, you can use the table of contents (TOC), index, or search. Each method has a corresponding tab in Document Explorer.

To narrow your search, you can also filter the WDK documentation so that you view only information that is relevant to you.

You can filter the WDK documentation in the Contents and Index tabs or in the Search tab.

  • To filter the WDK documentation in the Contents and Index tabs, select one of the available filters from the Filtered by list that appears at the top of the left pane of Document Explorer (as the following figure shows).

Note  You can select only one filter at one time for the Contents and Index tabs.

Filtered by list in Document Explorer

  • To filter the WDK documentation in the Search tab, under the search box, click the arrow next to WDK Documentation and then select the check boxes of the sections that you want to search (as the following figure shows).

Note  To search the entire WDK documentation, clear all check boxes or select all check boxes.

Notes About Filtering the Documentation

  • After you use filters in the WDK documentation, close the documentation, and then reopen the documentation, Document Explorers persists the last filter that you selected. Therefore, if you open the WDK documentation and the TOC, index, or search lists seems inaccurate, make sure that you have the appropriate filters selected.
  • In the Search tab, you select one or multiple check boxes to search one or more areas at once. To search the entire WDK documentation, clear all check boxes or select all check boxes.
  • If you also have Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your computer, you might see Language, Technology, and Content Type options under the search box in the Search tab. The WDK documentation does not support these options. You can use them only from within Visual Studio, so you must select all check boxes for these options to search the WDK. Otherwise, if one or more options is not selected for Language, Technology, or Content Type, the WDK search fails and returns zero search results.
