Driver Test Manager
Cluster Server Testing Overview

To receive the “Designed for Windows” logo for a system or server, and qualify the system or server to appear in the Windows Catalog, you must complete the required Cluster Server testing. These tests verify that your product functions correctly with the applicable Microsoft Windows operating system.

The procedures presented in this section outline the process for testing your Cluster Server. These procedures use the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK) and Driver Test Manager (DTM). To ensure full functionality, you must run all of the tests that the DTM identifies as required for the Cluster Server.

Using the Test Procedure Help Topics

The test procedures are divided into the following types of topics:

Overview: The overview topics describe the hardware, software, and tester knowledge requirements.

Preparing: The preparing topics describe how to configure the system or systems for "Designed for Windows" logo testing.

Running: The running topics describe how to run the tests for your device or system.

Geographically dispersed cluster servers

A geographically dispersed cluster is a cluster in which the nodes are deployed on several different sites. A geographically dispersed cluster server must ensure that the round-trip latency of the network between nodes of the cluster is 500 milliseconds or less. Use the cluster server test procedures to test a geographically dispersed cluster.

There is only one difference between testing a cluster server and testing a geographically dispersed cluster server: The “W2K3 MSCS - Run Phase 1” test is not required for a geographically dispersed cluster submission.

Cluster server tests

These tests are required for all cluster servers and must be run in the order that they are listed:

  1. W2K3 MSCS - Run Phase 1
  2. W2K3 MSCS - Run Signed Driver Check
  3. W2K3 MSCS - Run ValdN
  4. W2K3 MSCS - Run MovN
  5. W2K3 MSCS - Run Signed Driver Check
  6. W2K3 MSCS - Run ValdN
  7. W2K3 MSCS - Run MovN
  8. W2K3 MSCS - Run ValdN
  9. W2K3 MSCS - Run MovN
  10. W2K3 MSCS - Run MovN

Run time: approximately 77 hours

Hardware requirements

Note All hardware that is part of the system or shipped with the cluster solution must be listed in the Windows Server Catalog for the appropriate operating system before the system itself can be granted a logo. In addition, the domain controller, remote test host, and clients must be listed in the Windows Server Catalog.

The following hardware is required to run the Cluster Server HCT kit:
