How to: Connect to Team Foundation Server through Team System Web Access

Visual Studio 2008

To connect to Team Foundation Server through Team System Web Access, you open a browser window and type the URL that identifies the Team System Web Access server. If the Web site is using forms-based authentication, you must also provide logon credentials to connect. If you do not know the name of the server where Team System Web Access is installed, notify your Team Foundation Administrator.

Required Permissions

To connect to a Team Foundation Server through Team System Web Access, you must be a member of the Team Foundation Valid Users security group. If the necessary security permissions are set explicitly, you must have the View server-level information permission set to Allow.

For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To connect to Team Foundation Server through Team System Web Access

  1. Open a browser window and type the following in the Address field:

    http://servername:8090

where servername is the name of the Team System Web Access server. 8090 is the default port that is used by the Team System Web Access Web site. If your server uses a different port number, specify that port number in the URL, and then press ENTER.

  2. If the Connect to Team Foundation Server page appears, the Web site is using forms-based authentication. You must provide your credentials to successfully log on.

    1. Type the URL that specifies the Team Foundation server to which you want to connect. Use the following format:

      http://servername:8080

where servername is the name of the Team Foundation server. 8080 is the default port that is used by Team Foundation Server. If your Team Foundation Server uses a different port number, specify that port number in the URL.

    2. Type your user name in the Username box.

    3. Type your password in the Password box.

    4. Select the Remember me check box to cache your credentials.

    5. Click Connect.

    NoteNote:

Subsequent logons to Team Foundation Server do not require that you supply credentials, providing that your first logon successfully accessed an existing project in Team Foundation Server and you selected Remember me.

After you have connected to your Team Foundation Server, you can sign out and connect to a different Team Foundation Server. This is useful if you work with more than one Team Foundation Server. The Team Foundation Server to which you are connected is always displayed in the upper-left corner of Team System Web Access.

To connect to a different Team Foundation Server

  1. In Team System Web Access, in a current session, click (signout).

  2. The Connect to Team Foundation Server Web page is displayed. You must provide credentials to connect to a different Team Foundation Server.

    1. Type the URL that specifies the different Team Foundation Server to which you want to connect. Use the following format:

      http://servername:8080

where servername is the name of the Team Foundation Server. 8080 is the default port that is used by Team Foundation Server. If the Team Foundation Server uses a different port number, specify that port number in the URL.
