A Voice over IP telephone system typically involves VoIP phones calling into a SIP server (or servers) within a corporate network. Outgoing calls are routed to a gateway (GW), which forwards the calls to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). In like manner, calls from the PSTN arrive at the GW and are routed through the corporate network's SIP server or servers to the appropriate IP phone.

Deployment involves using a bootstrap application to update phone settings. This bootstrap application should be used only to update phone settings.

Note:
The bootstrap application must be used only to update phone settings. Using the bootstrap application for any other use than updating the phone settings (for example, using it to update applications) jeopardizes the security of the phone.
