How to: Activate Automatic Error Reporting to Microsoft

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

When serious Speech Server errors occur, you can have reports with those errors sent automatically to Microsoft for troubleshooting.

This functionality depends on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 error reporting feature, which normally prompts the user to confirm transmission of error reports to Microsoft before sending the information. However, when you activate automatic error reporting in Speech Server, Windows Server 2003 sends the error reports with specific information about Speech Server failures to Microsoft without prompting you for confirmation. By default, automatic error reporting is not activated.

Note

All error reports are sent to Microsoft over encrypted channels using the HTTPS protocol. The information is stored with controlled access and is only used to improve Speech Server.

Activating Automatic Reporting

To activate automatic reporting of serious Speech Server errors

  1. Open the Speech Server Administrator console.

For more information, see How to: Start the Speech Server Administrator Console.

  2. In the console tree, expand the applicable group, and then click Servers.

  3. In the details pane, double-click the applicable server.

  4. Click the Trace Logging tab, select Send fatal error information to Microsoft, and then click Yes.

  5. Click OK.

    Note

You can also set up automatic error reporting using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripts. For more information, see the AllowHeadlessReporting property in LogSettings Class.
