Hardware and Software Requirements (Sync Services)
Sync Services for ADO.NET 2.0 requires ADO.NET 2.0 on the server. Sync Services requires ADO.NET 2.0 for desktop clients or .NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 for device clients. For client and server synchronization, the server database can be any database for which an ADO.NET provider is available, such as SQL Server 2005. The client database is SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 1. For peer-to-peer synchronization, each peer database must be SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.
Sync Services is based on Microsoft Sync Framework. Sync Services requires Microsoft.Synchronization.dll. If you installed Sync Services by using SyncSetup.exe, this DLL is already installed. For more information about Sync Framework, see this Microsoft Web site.
