How to: Add an Attachment in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Project

Visual Studio 2008

You can add attachments to work items in Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel, by using the following procedures.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Contributors group or have the View work items in this node and Edit work items in this node permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To add an attachment in Microsoft Excel

  1. Open the work item list in Microsoft Excel.

  2. Add the Links and Attachments column to the file. For more information, see How to: Add or Remove Columns in the Work Item List.

  3. Select the cell under the Links and Attachments column for the work item to which you want to add an attachment.

  4. On the Team tab, in the Work Items group, click Links & Attachments.

    NoteNote:

In Microsoft Office Excel 2003 use the Team menu.

  5. In the View/Edit Work Item Links and Attachments dialog box, select the Attachments tab.

  6. Click Add.

  7. In the Add Attachment dialog box, under Attachment, type or browse to the name of the file that you want to attach.

  8. If you want to add information about the attachment, type it under Comment. This is not required to complete the attachment.

  9. Click OK and then click Save.

  10. If you are prompted to confirm saving the attachment to the server, click Yes.

  11. Note   You cannot edit attachments for new work items. If you create new work items in a work item list, or a project plan, you must first publish them to the work item database before you add an attachment.

  7. If you want to add information about the attachment, type it under Comment. This is not required to complete attaching the item.

  8. Click OK and then click Save.

  9. If you are prompted to confirm saving the attachment to the server, click Yes.

  10. Note   You cannot edit attachments for new work items. If you create new work items in a work item list, or a project plan, you must first publish them to the work item database before you add an attachment.
