Booting Windows Embedded Standard from USB (Windows Embedded Standard 2009)

To boot Windows Embedded Standard from USB, format the USB media, build the USB bootable image, and transfer the image to the USB media.

In this procedure, the term development machine refers to a PC running Windows Embedded Studio tools. The term target machine refers to an embedded device running the Windows Embedded Standard image.

Following are the steps to boot Windows Embedded Standard from USB:

Step 1: Format USB Media

Step 2: Generate and Transfer .pmq File

Step 3: Import .pmq File to Target Designer

Step 4: Add USB Boot Components

Step 5: Build USB Bootable Target Image and Transfer to USB Media

Hardware Requirements

The USB media must provide at least 256 MB of storage capacity.
