Overview

You can easily customize the task pane in the 2007 Microsoft Office system when you use Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (also known as Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition, or VSTO 2005 SE). Custom task panes give you a way to create your own task pane and provide users with a familiar interface to access your solution's features. VSTO 2005 SE provides an add-in model that enables you to customize the task pane in several Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, InfoPath, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

The Visual Studio Tools for Office Help includes the code and the steps that are demonstrated in this video. Specifically, see How to: Add a Custom Task Pane to an Application.
