How to Install EDI Schema Files
To create EDI solutions, you must install EDI schema files to deploy with your projects. Because of the large size of the complete collection of these schemas, the schema files are included in a self-extracting executable, rather than being installed by default with the product. You must unzip these files onto your hard drive to make them available for your projects.
You must install the Developer Tools and SDK component of BizTalk Server in order to have access to the EDI schema files. If you do not install the Developer Tools and SDK component, the \XSD_Schema folder will not be created and the MicrosoftEdiXSDTemplates.exe file will not be available.
The compressed self-extracting executable is called MicrosoftEdiXSDTemplates.exe, and is included in drive:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010\XSD_Schema\EDI. The schema files in this executable include EANCOM, EDIFACT, HIPAA, and X12 schemas. When you unzip them to your hard drive, they will be stored in EANCOM, EDIFACT, HIPAA, and X12 folders.
If you upgrade Microsoft BizTalk Server to a later build, the MicrosoftEdiXSDTemplates.exe file in your installation will be replaced with the MicrosoftEdiXSDTemplates.exe file associated with the upgrade. If you plan to continue to use the schemas from the old compressed file, you will no longer have access to the compressed file after the upgrade unless you back up the old compressed file.
If you upgrade message schemas when you upgrade Microsoft BizTalk Server to a later build, you may encounter issues using the updated schemas, or you may have to perform additional updating steps. For more information, see the "Considerations for updating schemas" section in Important Considerations for Updating Applications.
