How to: Add SDM Documents and Project Files from Shared Solutions Under Source Control

In Distributed System Designers, if you are using Team Foundation source control, and you want to add an SDM document or certain project files, such as code files, from another solution to your solution, you will not be able to use the Open from Source Control dialog box to add the item to your solution. This dialog box does not display the option for you to select from all files or to select an item with an SDM file extension or certain other project file extensions, such as code file extensions.

For more information, see the following topics:

To add these files to your solution, use the following procedure.

To add an SDM document or project file from a shared solution

  1. In Visual Studio, connect to the Team Foundation Server where the solution containing the SDM document or project file is located.

  2. From the View menu, point to Other Windows, and click Source Control Explorer.

    NoteTip

You can also double-click the Source Control node in Team Explorer.

Source Control Explorer opens with the affiliated team project highlighted. For more information, see How to: Open Source Control Explorer.

  3. From the Workspace drop-down list on the Source Control Explorer toolbar, select your workspace.

If you do not have a workspace, create one. For more information, see Working with Source Control Workspaces.

  4. In Source Control Explorer, locate and click the item you want to add to your solution.

  5. On the File menu, point to Source Control, and click Get Latest Version.

    NoteTip

You can also right-click the item and click Get Latest Version.

If you have a local working folder, the item appears in your working folder. Otherwise, create or choose a working folder in which to place the item. For more information, see How to: Add and Remove a Working Folder in a Workspace.

  6. In Solution Explorer, right-click the solution node where you want to add the item, point to Add, and click Existing Item.

  7. In the Add Existing Item dialog box, locate the item in your working folder and add it to your solution.
