/VXD (Create Virtual Device Driver)

Visual Studio .NET 2003
/VXD

The /VXD option creates a virtual device driver (VxD). When this option is specified, the default file name extension changes to .vxd. For details on VxDs, see the Microsoft Windows NT Device Driver Kit.

A .vxd file is not in Common Object File Format, and it cannot be used with DUMPBIN or EDITBIN. It does not contain debugging information. However, you can create a mapfile when you link a .vxd file.

A .vxd file cannot be incrementally linked.

For related information, see /EXETYPE.
