Fine-Tuning Discovery Mechanisms

To make it possible for other developers to locate and use your XML Web service, you need to advertise its availability. An established method for doing so is to register the XML Web service in a directory of XML Web services. The Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) project provides a directory of businesses and the services they provide. For more information, see XML Web Services Directories and the Microsoft UDDI Web site (http://uddi.microsoft.com/).

In addition to removing, moving, or renaming discovery documents, you can customize their contents or even create your own discovery document. You might do this if:

  • You want to customize the information exposed about an XML Web service in its discovery document.
  • You want to provide a static discovery file (.disco).
