The Disk Management Services component provides support for disk and volume management operations. The component implements a Component Object Model (COM) interface that can be used to query and configure disks and volumes, both basic and dynamic. The component also monitors disk arrivals and removals and other changes in the storage subsystem.
Services
This component includes the following two services:
- Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service (Dmadmin.exe), which implements the disk and volume management operations.
- Logical Disk Manager (Dmserver.exe), which monitors disk arrivals and removals and forwards notifications to the Logical Disk Manager Administrative service.
Associated Components
The Disk Management Services component is used by components such as Disk Management MMC Snap-In and Disk Management Command Line Utility to manage disks and volumes, both basic and dynamic. The component relies on calls to the Disk Management Basic Volume Runtime component and Disk Management Dynamic Volume Runtime component.
