Creating HTML Pages

HTML documents present text and graphics in a format that enables users to view this content in Web browsers. You can add a new, blank HTML pages to a Web project, and then insert elements and scripts there. Or, if you prefer, add model Web pages to your solution, and test elements and scripts there before copying the page into a Project.

Here are several common procedures used in creating HTML documents.

To add a new HTML document to a Web project

  1. Select a Web project in Solution Explorer.
  2. On the Project menu, select Add HTML Page.

To add a new HTML document to the Solution Items list

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the parent node for your current solution.
  2. On the Project menu, select Add New Item.
  3. In the Add New Solution Item dialog box, select the HTML Page template icon.

To add an existing HTML document to the Solution Items list

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the parent node for your current solution.
  2. On the Project menu, select Add Existing File.
  3. In the Add Existing File dialog box, find and select an HTML document, and click Open.

To copy an HTML document from the Solution Items list into a Web project

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the desired HTML file in the Solution Items list.
  2. Drag this file onto the name of a Web project in the solution.

    The HTML file is copied into the Web project.

To add a new HTML document to the Miscellaneous Files list

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the parent node for your current solution.
  2. On the File menu, select New and choose File.
  3. In the New File dialog box, select HTML Page and click Open.

To add an existing HTML document to the Miscellaneous Files list for your Solution

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the parent node for your current solution.
  2. On the File menu, select Open and then choose File.
  3. In the Open File dialog box, find and select an HTML document, and click Open.

To copy an HTML document from the Miscellaneous Files list into a Web project.

  1. In Solution Explorer, select the desired HTML document from the Miscellaneous Files list.
  2. Drag this file to the name of a Web project.
  3. In the Save File As dialog box, type a name for the copied file in the File name field.
  4. Save this copy in the default folder for project items (by default, this is the Solution folder).
