Migrating EDI Artifacts from a Previous Version of BizTalk Server

The way trading partners are managed using BizTalk Server has been completely remodeled in BizTalk Server 2010. While in previous versions of BizTalk Server, a party is created only for the trading partner and not for the partner hosting BizTalk Server, in BizTalk Server 2010 a trading partner must be created for all the trading partners, including the partner hosting BizTalk Server. Similarly, while in previous BizTalk Server versions, while the encoding (X12 and EDIFACT) and transport (AS2) protocol properties were defined at the party level, in BizTalk Server 2010 these properties are defined through agreements.

noteNote
To know more about the new Trading Partner Management solution in BizTalk Server 2010, see Building Blocks of a Trading Partner Management Solution.

To enable users to migrate their party data from previous versions of BizTalk Server, BizTalk Server 2010 include a Party Migration Tool. Using the tool, users can migrate the existing party definitions to party definitions that are compatible with BizTalk Server 2010. The Party Migration Tool is available on the BizTalk Server CD under \PartyMigrationTool folder. To know more about the Party Migration Tool, read the PartyMigrationTool.htm under \MSI\Htmhelp folder on the CD.

noteNote
The Party Migration Tool can be used to migrate party information from BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or BizTalk Server 2009.

noteNote
The EDI migration utilities shipped with previous versions of BizTalk Server were used to migrate third-party EDI applications to use the EDI solution provided as part of BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or BizTalk Server 2009. Migrating third party EDI applications directly to BizTalk Server 2010 is not supported. You must first migrate third party EDI applications to BizTalk Sever 2006 R2 or BizTalk Server 2009 using the EDI migration utilities shipped with these versions of BizTalk Server and then use the Party Migration tool shipped with BizTalk Server 2010 to migrate the party definitions from BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or BizTalk Server 2009 to BizTalk Server 2010.
