Quick Start Guide to Installing and Configuring BizTalk Server 2006

Computer and processor

A computer with an Intel Pentium-compatible CPU that is:

• 1 GHz or higher for single processors
  
  
• 900 Mhz or higher for double processors
  
  
• 700 Mhz or higher for quad processors
  
  

Hyper-Threading and Dual-Core processors are supported.

Memory

1 GB of RAM

Hard disk

10 GB of available hard disk space

Drive

CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

Display

Microsoft Windows 2003-compatible VGA or higher-resolution monitor set to 1024 x 768 pixels resolution or greater

Other

Network adapter card

Step 1: Install Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2

• After installing Windows, you must be logged on as an administrator, or add a Windows user account to the Administrators group in order to install additional software.
  
  

Step 2: Install Critical Updates for Windows

• Install any high priority updates listed at the Windows Update Web site
  
  

Step 3: Install Internet Information Services 6.0

• Enable ASP.NET
  
  
• Run ASP.NET in native mode
  
  
• Set the ASP.NET version to 2.0.50727
  
  

Step 4: Install Office Excel 2003 and InfoPath 2003 with Service Pack 2

• Install using default settings
  
  

Step 5: Install Visual Studio 2005

• Install Microsoft C# and the .NET Framework SDK.
  
  

Step 6: Install SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack 2.

• Install using default settings
  
  
• BizTalk Server does not support binary collations
  
  

Step 7: Install and configure Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 with Service Pack 2

• Installation type must be Server Farm
  
  

Step 8: Extend Default Web Site as a virtual server

• Select NTLM for the security type. Kerberos authentication is not supported with Business Activity Services.
  
  

Step 9: Create a network share for Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) alerts

• Create a share named Alerts
  
  
• Give Everyone Change permissions to this share
  
  

Step 10: Install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0

Note

You do not need to perform this step if the WCF adapter or WCF administration tools are selected during BizTalk Server setup. Selecting the WCF components will install the .NET Framework 3.0 during BizTalk Server setup.

Step 11: Install Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0

• WSE 3.0 is available at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=68614.
  
  

Step 12: Install Microsoft Message Queuing service (MSMQ)

• Install from Add/Remove Windows Components in Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel.
  
  

Step 13: Install Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0

• Previous versions of MMC, if present, must be removed from the computer before installing MMC 3.0.
  
  

Step 14: Install the World Wide Web Publishing Service

• Ensure that the status of the service is "Started".
  
  

Step 15: Enable a port for the BizTalk RFID service

• Add port number 7891 to the list of exceptions in Windows Firewall.
  
  

Step 1: Install BizTalk Server 2006 R2

• The account you are logged on as must be part of the local administrators group for the computer you are logged on to, and you must have DBA rights on the SQL Server. After configuration is complete, you can lower the SQL Server privileges to DBO
  
  
• Install all components
  
  

Step 2: Configure BizTalk Server 2006 R2

• Install using Basic configuration
  
  

Step 1: Install BizTalk RFID

• The account you are logged on as must be part of the local administrators group for the computer you are logged on to, and you must have DBA rights on the SQL Server computer.

Step 2: Configure the Business Rule Engine

• Not mandatory (may be configured or reconfigured later)
