Microsoft is introducing a new infrastructure to enable multifunction devices that store various media and non-media content. The object-based Device-Driver Interface (DDI) enables a new breed of convergent devices, initially focused on smart storage devices such as Portable Media players, digital still cameras, and mobile phones. Along with a new DDI, Windows Portable Devices (WPD) introduces the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) for portable devices, and implements a class driver solution for this protocol.
