What's new in Accounts receivable
Sales orders

Footer text on purchase orders and documents: Specify the text that you want to be printed in the footer of the original copy of a sales document and other text on a copy of the document. For example, print an original sales order for the accounts receivable department with "Accounts Receivable Copy" printed in the footer and print a copy of the order for the warehouse department with "Warehouse" printed in the footer. To enter the footer text for various sales documents, click Accounts receivable > Setup > Forms > > Print management.

Customers

Customer balance form: To view customer balance information about credit limits, credit limits remaining, amounts ordered, and amounts on packing slips, click Balance in the form. For more information, press F1 in the Balance form.

Aging buckets: In the Balance form, click Aging buckets to view the open customer balance in aging buckets in the company currency. The time buckets show the current open balance distribution over time considering either due date, document date, or transaction date. You define the aging bucket intervals in the form. To open this form, click Accounts receivable > Setup > Statistics > .

Customer account statement: To print a customer account statement for external use, click Accounts receivable > Reports > External > Customer account statement. You can inform a customer about transactions that are due within a period that you define and about installments that are due on payment schedules. In addition, you can present a maturity report of all transactions due in periods that are defined as fixed intervals or user-defined aging buckets. The report can be presented in the customer's currency and language. If the account includes transactions of more than one currency, an opening balance and a closing balance are displayed per currency.

Customer payments

Payment proposal: The payment proposal enables you to sort and post several incoming payments in one operation. For more information, see Post payments by using payment proposal.

Cash discounts: You can overrule the ledger account that is normally used for posting cash discounts by selecting an alternative ledger account in the Open transaction editing form. To use this functionality, click Accounts receivable > Journals > Payments > Payment journal > Lines > Functions > Settlement.

Refund a customer by check: You can now select a method of payment by check for a customer. The check is generated in the payment journal.

Customer payment journal report: Use the Customer payment journal report and the Customer posted payment journal report to view account and payment details for individual customers. Amounts on the reports are displayed in the currency of the payment and in the original currency for the transaction. Unapplied payments are included, but payment details are not included. This feature is available if the United States and Canada configuration key is selected. For more information, see About customer payment journal reports.

Management of transactions

Reverse a transaction: With this new functionality, you can reverse a transaction. All related transactions that were created when the original transaction was posted are also reversed. You cannot reverse a transaction in a previous fiscal year. For more information, see Reverse a transaction.

Revoke a reversed transaction: This new functionality enables you to revoke a reversed transaction. For example, if you need to revoke a reversed transaction to change the transaction date of the original posting. For more information, see Revoke a reversed transaction.

Exchange adjustment of open customer transactions

To update the value of your accounts receivable and to comply with the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), you run the exchange adjustment periodic job. By using a new exchange rate, the job revalues the amounts that were open (not settled) on a specified date. The differences between the original posted amounts and the revalued amounts are posted in the ledger and to customer accounts as unrealized exchange adjustment transactions. Transactions that have been exchange adjusted on a more recent date are not revalued. For more information, see Exchange adjustment of open customer transactions.

Advanced Intercompany Functionality

In today’s global economy, many enterprises have companies both domestic and abroad as affiliated production and sales companies.

Traditionally, trade between companies within the same enterprise (intercompany trade) involves double-order entry, manual work, and no intercompany process control. This duplication of effort causes wasted resources and a high risk of error.

Microsoft Dynamics AX Intercompany is a significant enhancement to the Microsoft Axapta 3.0 offering. Sales and purchase trading, in addition to document flow between companies in an enterprise, is now automated. Also, we have added new controls to increase the integrity of orders and documents.

Extended Sales and Purchase Order forms display an overview of related orders and the original sales order. The intercompany trading process is now a more controlled process with limits on the ability to change a sales or purchase order.

Users are limited when changing price, discounts, and miscellaneous charges when the other company determines the price. Therefore, users will not be able to update order details on a specific sales, intercompany purchase, or intercompany sales order if the action violates the intercompany parameter setup and the specific intercompany trading process.

Partners have a more attractive solution to sell into companies that require comprehensive intercompany process support out of the box.

Enhanced delivery date control on sales orders

Microsoft Dynamics AX has extended the current delivery date concept. Microsoft Dynamics AX now distinguishes between the selling company’s possible ship date and the buying company’s receipt date. Three new calendars are introduced: Shipping, Transport, and Customer opening days.

Release order picking

Microsoft Dynamics AX introduces a new process-oriented overview form to handle the picking procedure across all sales and transfer orders, including back orders.

The new process-oriented form will be a more push-oriented approach, where the item arrival kick-starts the process for the sales back-order lines or the transfer back-order line.

Direct delivery

To optimize customer service and delivery time, it is now possible to create a purchase order as a direct delivery (drop shipment) from the vendor to the customer. This delivery type reduces the costs of labor, inventory, and transportation.

The whole process is controlled so that the references and states of the sales order and linked purchase orders control whether order updates can be performed.

Enhanced credit-limit check for sales orders

Historically, complex credit limit checking for sales orders may have slowed the system or otherwise adversely affected system performance. In Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, we have improved processes to eliminate this problem

In addition, when the credit limit is exceeded, users receive more complete information about the results of the credit check that they can communicate to the supplier or customer. This includes the amount that the credit limit was exceeded in both the customer’s currency and the user’s own company currency, and the various subtotals that constitute the credit balance.

Multiple delivery addresses

Microsoft Dynamics AX introduces order line-specific delivery and receipt addresses. This feature enables multiple delivery addresses for a single purchase order or sales order. You can now create, edit, or reuse vendor or customer addresses using a new address selection form.

Improved Intrastat support

When buying and selling within the European Union (EU), it is mandatory to record and inform authorities about foreign trade, which is referred to as Intrastat. This applies to all goods sold. In Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, the existing foreign trade functionality has been enhanced so that you can generate Intrastat transactions from the Free Text invoice form.
