Using Remote Desktop Services Virtual Channels

To use virtual channels, you must provide the server-side and client-side components of a virtual channels application. The server component can be a user-mode application or a kernel-mode driver. The component that acts as a client must be a DLL.

If you have enabled a virtual channels application in your Remote Desktop Services deployment, you can also make the application available to client computers that access the Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) server by means of the Remote Desktop ActiveX control.
