Windows 2000: Prior to the release of the Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) as a ValueAdd component on Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1 (SP1), implementing virtual channel applications on the client side required developers to create and register a client Dynamic Link Library (DLL). This DLL was loaded into memory on the client computer at the time the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client program was run. While this method is still supported, a much simpler and more efficient method exists. Beginning with the TSAC, all client-side virtual channel operations can be scripted, considerably reducing the administrative overhead for deployment.
Windows XP: Windows XP includes Remote Desktop Web Connection, which is an updated version of the TSAC. Remote Desktop Web Connection supports
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 5.1 and is backward compatible with RDP 5.0.
