CAPICOM 1.0 provides the following functionality:

• Generation and verification of PKCS #7 based digital signatures
• Encryption and decryption of data by using certificates
• Encryption and decryption of data by using passwords

CAPICOM 2.0 includes the functionality of CAPICOM 1.0 and adds the following functionality:

• Generation and verification of Authenticode digital signatures
• Support for file-based credentials
• Robust certificate store searching
• Generation of hashes of arbitrary data
• Support for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm

  Windows 2000:  AES is not supported.

• Support for advanced certificate properties, such as Policies and Templates
