Microsoft® Windows® multimedia support enables applications to use sound and video. It can be used in all Windows-based applications.
The Media Control Interface (MCI) provides standard commands for playing multimedia devices and recording multimedia resource files. MCIWnd is a window class for controlling multimedia devices. Microsoft Video for Windows (VFW) provides functions that enable an application to process video data.
The multimedia input functions were introduced in 16-bit Windows. Many of their features have been superseded by features in DirectX®. For more information, see the DirectX developer page.
