Returns a character expression with lowercase character data converted to uppercase.

Syntax
UPPER ( character_expression )
Arguments
character_expression
Is an expression of character or binary data that can be implicitly converted to nvarchar or ntext; otherwise, use CAST to explicitly convert character_expression.
Return Types

nvarchar or ntext

Examples

The following example queries the Customers table of the Northwind database and returns the names of the companies in uppercase.

SELECT CustomerID, UPPER(CompanyName)
FROM Customers
ORDER BY CompanyName
