Returns the integer value, as defined by the Unicode standard, for the first character of the input expression.

Syntax
UNICODE ( 'ncharacter_expression' ) 
Arguments
'ncharacter_expression'
Is an expression whose type can be implicitly converted to nvarchar or ntext.

int

Examples

The following example returns the names of the companies in the Northwind database along with the integer value, as defined by the Unicode standard, for the first character of each company name.

SELECT CompanyName, UNICODE(CompanyName)
FROM Customers
ORDER BY CompanyName
