With add-ins, you automate tasks by adding commands to perform the tasks. You can also add toolbar buttons and key sequences to carry out the commands — giving them the same ease of use as other commands in the Visual C++ environment.

To create an add-in, you can use Visual C++ or Visual Basic. If you use Visual C++, you can employ the Developer Studio Add-in Wizard, which will do most of the work for you.
