Introduction

Tip   If you prefer working from a printed tutorial, see in MSDN Library Help for details about printing a lesson, a set of topics, or a single topic.

These tutorials introduce the experienced C/C++ programmer to the Microsoft® Visual C++® development system and the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) Library (including the MFC OLE, ActiveX, and database classes). The MFC Library is a set of C++ classes that encapsulate the functionality of applications written for the Microsoft Windows® family of operating systems.

The tutorials show you how to build sample applications, while demonstrating key concepts you’ll need to understand when developing your own Visual C++ applications. If you're new to Visual C++ and the development environment, the tutorials are a great hands-on way to become more familiar with it.

The tutorials demonstrate practical application of the MFC classes, including the ActiveX, OLE, and both Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Data Access Objects (DAO) database classes. See Overview of the Visual C++ Tutorials later in this introduction for a description of each tutorial.
