1. Performance has not been tuned for minimum system configuration. Increasing your RAM above the recommended system configuration will increase your performance, specifically when running multiple applications, working with large projects, or doing enterprise-level development.

2. When you start the Visual Studio installer, the default installation location is your system drive, which is the drive that boots your system. However, you can install the application on any drive. Regardless of the application's location, the installation process installs some files on your system drive. Consequently, ensure that the above amount of space is available on your system drive regardless of the application's location, and ensure that additional space, as listed above, is available on the drive on which you install the application.

3. Windows XP Home does not support local Web application development; local Web application development is only supported in the Professional or Server versions of Windows.

4. Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is not a supported operating system.

5. The type of media provided with the product determines whether a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is required.

To set up the design tools on the development computer

  1. Install Office, including the primary interop assemblies. For more information, see How to: Install Office Primary Interop Assemblies.

  2. Install Office 2003 SP1 or later. For more information, see the Office 2003 Service Pack 1 Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkID=762292).

  3. Install VSTO 2005, or install the Visual Studio Team System product including the programming language Visual Basic or Visual C#.

By default, VSTO 2005 is installed with Visual Studio Team System products when you install Visual Basic or Visual C#.

  4. If you have an English version of Visual Studio but use non-English settings for Windows, you can install the Visual Studio Tools for Office Language Pack to see Visual Studio Tools for Office runtime messages in the same language as Windows. The Visual Studio Tools for Office Language Pack is available from the Microsoft Download Center (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads). Non-English versions of Visual Studio Tools for Office automatically install the language pack.

If you install a Visual Studio Team System product before you install Office, you must repair the Visual Studio Tools for Office runtime by running the runtime Setup file (VSTOR.exe). For more information, see How to: Install the Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime.
