The following software is required to install VSTO 2005:

• One of the following editions of Microsoft Office 2003. Service Pack 1 (SP1) is also required with whichever edition you choose. For more information about SP1, see the Office 2003 Service Pack 1 Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkID=762292). Later service packs are recommended.

  • Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003.

  • Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003.

  • Microsoft Office Excel 2003.

  • Microsoft Office Word 2003.

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.*

  • Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 Trial.

  • Microsoft Office System Evaluation 2003 Enterprise Edition.

  *The version of Outlook that is included with Microsoft Exchange Server client access licenses is not supported.

• The Office 2003 primary interop assemblies, installed in the Windows global assembly cache (GAC). For more information, see How to: Install Office Primary Interop Assemblies and Office Primary Interop Assemblies.

• Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) must be installed as part of Office.

In addition to the hardware and system requirements specified by Microsoft Office, VSTO 2005 requires the following components.

1. Performance has not been tuned for minimum system configuration. Increasing your RAM above the recommended system configuration will increase your performance, specifically when running multiple applications, working with large projects, or doing enterprise-level development.

2. When you start the Visual Studio installer, the default installation location is your system drive, which is the drive that boots your system. However, you can install the application on any drive. Regardless of the application's location, the installation process installs some files on your system drive. Consequently, ensure that the above amount of space is available on your system drive regardless of the application's location, and ensure that additional space, as listed above, is available on the drive on which you install the application.

3. Windows XP Home does not support local Web application development; local Web application development is only supported in the Professional or Server versions of Windows.

4. Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is not a supported operating system.

5. The type of media provided with the product determines whether a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is required.

To set up the design tools on the development computer

If you install a Visual Studio Team System product before you install Office, you must repair the Visual Studio Tools for Office runtime by running the runtime Setup file (VSTOR.exe). For more information, see How to: Install the Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime.

  • Visual Studio Team System

  • Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition

• A supported version of Microsoft Office 2003 or the 2007 Microsoft Office system. VSTO 2005 SE does not support installing Microsoft Office 2003 and the 2007 Microsoft Office system (or different versions of the same application, such as Word 2003 and Word 2007) side by side on the development computer.
