SQL Data Services (SDS)

Microsoft SQL Data Services (SDS), formerly known as SQL Server Data Services (SSDS), are highly scalable, on-demand data storage and query processing utility services. Built on robust SQL Server technologies and Windows Server, SDS provides highly available, secure, standards based web services that are easy to program and provision.

Getting Started with SDS

There are 2 ways to access SQL Data Services (SDS). For more information on these two options, see About the CTP Release.

Sign Up for standalone SDS (Public CTP)

New customer sign-up
SDS is available as a stand-alone public CTP. This sign-up process will allow you to begin exploring SDS immediately.
Sign in to manage your existing account
This link allows existing customers to change their SDS public CTP password.

Register for SDS along with other Azure Services

Register for Microsoft Azure Services
The Azure Services includes the .NET Services and SDS option. Registration is required for the invitation-only Azure CTP. Once you receive invitation via email, please sign up for the .NET Services and SDS option.
Sign in to manage your services
This link allows existing customers to manage their .NET Services and SDS solution.

About the SDS Community Technology Preview (CTP)
SDS public CTP is now available. After signing up you can explore SDS. For additional information, go to SDS product site.

Web Friendly Data Service
SDS supports standard open protocols and wire formats. It supports both SOAP and REST interfaces. Developers can program their applications in any language and development environments that support these standards.

“We develop backup and recovery software. SSDS will be one of the media that will be available for end users to store their backups and archives. We are interested in blobs and full text search capability of SSDS.

For a prototype, we will be testing backup and recovery to SSDS using REST APIs. We will be using libcurl library to access SSDS from a linux server.”
