TreeNode.Parent Property

Note: This property is new in the .NET Framework version 2.0.

Gets the parent node of the current node.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly: System.Web (in system.web.dll)

public TreeNode Parent { get; }
/** @property */
public TreeNode get_Parent ()

public function get Parent () : TreeNode

Property Value

A TreeNode that represents the parent node of the current node.

The Parent property returns a TreeNode object that represents the parent node of the current node. It is commonly used to determine the parent node or to access the properties of the parent node.

NoteNote

A root node does not have a parent node.

To access the child nodes of the current node, use the ChildNodes property.

The following code example demonstrates how to use the Parent property to access the Text property of the current node's parent node.

<%@ Page Language="C#" %>

<script runat="server">

  void Selection_Changed(Object sender, EventArgs e)
  {

    // Display the selected node and its parent node.
    Message.Text = "You selected " + LinksTreeView.SelectedNode.Text + ". ";

    if(LinksTreeView.SelectedNode.Parent.Depth != -1)
    {

      Message.Text += "Its parent node is " + LinksTreeView.SelectedNode.Parent.Text + ".";

    }
    else
    {

      Message.Text += "This is a root node and does not have a parent node.";

    }

  }

</script>
