How to Test Direct Mail

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

Typically, you send personalized direct mail items by using expression lists so that you can target your customers. When you create the direct mail item, you can send test mail by using a static list. To test personalized direct mail, you must use a static list that contains user IDs. If you create the static list by using Marketing Manager, the list will not have a profile user ID associated with it, so the test mail will fail. You can create a list for testing by importing an expression list into a static list, through the Import List option or programmatically.

Note

For more information about how to import expression lists programmatically, see your site developer.

To test direct mail

  1. Click Start, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 , and then click Marketing Manager.

  2. In Marketing Manager, in the Views pane, click Campaigns.

  3. In the Tree View pane, click All Direct Mails.

  4. In the Search Results pane, select the direct mail item that you want to test.

  5. In the Tasks pane, click Test direct mail.

Commerce Server sends a copy of the direct mail item to the e-mail addresses you specified in your test e-mail list.
